In Memory of Larry Howard: 1940 ~ 2016

Larry's 1st annual Cowboy Collectors Gathering Show took place in this old rock building. The "Freeman" building at Frontier Days Rodeo Grounds.

    Event History:

Larry Howard, an esteemed cowboy collector and trusted companion, was the original promoter of The Cowboy Collectors Gathering event. Larry had a great eye for the rarest cowboy antique items & he had a unique ability to find the most extraordinary pieces in his hunt. While collecting, Larry built a fabulous well admired cowboy collection. Larry was extremely passionate about collecting items connected to cowboy life and its fascinating history. Larry decided that his hometown - Prescott, AZ - would be the perfect place to have a western collectible show. Afterall, Prescott and its surrounding area are rich in western history!

The Cowboy Collectors Gathering event began in 2006 at Prescott's Frontier Days Rodeo Grounds, where Larry and a small group of collectors met to trade western antiques. A few years later, CCG expanded to include over 100 traders specializing in cowboy collectibles from various countries. Since 2006, collectors and traders have met in one location to buy, sell, and trade top quality Western and Native Americana antiques and collectibles. Fourteen years later, CCG simply outgrew Frontier rodeo grounds facility then moved to Prescott Valley, AZ where Findlay Toyota Center became the new home for the CCG event in 2020.

FOR THOSE WHO ASK... "WHY IS CCG EVENT ON "WEDNESDAY?":

The first "Cowboy Collectors Gathering" event took place the 3rd "Wednesday" in Jan 2006. Why Wednesday? Larry thought 'What if CCG were to precede another western show held in Mesa, AZ the 3rd weekend in January?'. Why? Because his fellow western collectors & exhibitors could enjoy & prosper from two events (back-to-back). Larry's thought, orchestrated CCG's event which began the 3rd "Wednesday" in January 2006. Without doubt, a "mid-week" event is odd! Nonetheless, CCG'S event is quite prosperous by pulling in a tremendous turnout on a "Wednesday"! Fast forward, CCG's event continues to bloom each year & its growth has had a positive impact for the western collectible industry. CCG'S attendees & its exhibitors have increased significantly, year after year on "Wednesday".

And there you have it! With intent, CCG schedules their annual event to be held the 3rd "Wednesday" in January because a mid-week event, oddly has a way of success. Sorta crazy a one-horse town event held on a Wednesday could attract enough shoppers to take place annually since 2006! Side note: For those who find "Wednesday" doesn't accommodate your schedule.... we encourage you to call-in sick at work to attend the event (just kidding!) P.S. Your secret's safe with us! :o)

Sadly, our great friend Larry Howard passed in 2016. Larry's expertise in collectibles remains well regarded, and both his friends and those who enjoyed buying, selling, and trading western collectibles with him miss his friendship deeply.

    IN HONOR of LARRY HOWARD...

His friends Danny Pearson, Darryl & Tracy Abernathy carry forward COWBOY COLLECTORS GATHERING and its promotion of the event.

If you hold an interest in old west history and have desire to collect such relics...

We encourage your attendance & we welcome you to join us at the CCG show! Held annually the 3rd Wednesday in January!

    (Premium admission available Tuesday "VIP-DAY")
