Larry's 1st annual Cowboy Collectors Gathering Show took place in this old rock building. The "Freeman" building at Frontier Days Rodeo Grounds.
Originally promoted by Larry Howard, a highly honored, well respected cowboy collector & good friend...
Larry, had a good eye for some of the rarest cowboy antique items & he had a unique ability to find some of the most extraordinary pieces in his hunt. After years of collecting, Larry built a fabulous well admired cowboy collection.
After many years of collecting, selling & trading cowboy antiques in various parts of the country... Larry began to think his hometown of Prescott, AZ is a perfect location to have a western collectible event being Prescott has rich western history.
The first Cowboy Collectors Gathering show held in 2006 with Larry & his collector friends, took place at Prescott's Frontier Days Rodeo Grounds. The show began with only a few friends gathering to buy, sell & trade western americana antiques however, within a few short years, CCG quickly arrived to 100+ traders (scroll down to see photos). Since 2006, numerous Cowboy Collectors & Native American traders look forward to gathering together under one roof with a great opportunity to buy, sell & trade top quality Western & Native Americana Antiques & Collectibles.
Story behind "Show day is Wednesday"....
Larry promoted the 1st "Cowboy Collectors Gathering" show event on the 3rd "Wednesday" in Jan 2006. Why Wednesday? For Larry, it totally made sense for CCG to precede a similiar weekend event which also takes place in Arizona, only a few days later. And, so the CCG story began with the 1st annual show being held on a "Wednesday" in January and the rest is history. The goings on of a daytime mid-week held event is odd & rather questionable. Nevertheless, the CCG show rides into mid-week successfully (for nearly 18 years). And, with great intention CCG will continue to saddle up annually on a "Wednesday" in January because, year after year... each ride is better than the last.
Sadly, our friend Larry Howard, passed in 2016. His collectible knowledge continues to be highly respected by many & his friendship is well missed by those who knew him.
